Lighted Alternative Surround Fan Shroud for MK3s
thingiverse
I modified Darazsweb's alternative fan shroud and added rings to hold 3mm LEDs in place. This mod requires experience with soldering and basic electrical circuits to execute successfully. To power the LEDs, I connected them to the 5V header on my Einsy RAMBo (see photo). The type of LED used will determine if they should be wired serially or in parallel for even brightness; parallel wiring is recommended. In either case, an inline resistor is required, which can be calculated using a tool like ledcalc.com based on the values of your LEDs. Alternatively, you could use the 12V from J19 or tap into the 24V main power supply, but this will necessitate a larger wattage resistor to handle heat dissipation. If possible, try to stick with 5V for efficiency's sake. Mounting the bulbs involves simply dropping them in place and securing with a small amount of superglue. If they don't fit due to slicer settings or mechanical limitations, drill out the hole with a 1/8" bit and you'll be good to go. For suggestions on wire routing and heat shrinking, refer to the attached pics. Printing with PETG or ABS is recommended; clear filament would yield a more diffuse/even light effect, but I didn't have any available at the time of printing. Enjoy!
