Light Weight Adaptable Trailer / Service Ramp
grabcad
Unlike most trailers, this one lifts vehicles by their frames, offering advantages like adjustable wheels and suspension components for competition vehicles. It can also be tipped forward or backward to access differentials, prop shafts, and engine sumps. The trailer bed's angle is secured using an adjustable stay bar, and when lowered with wheels in place, it locks the wheel pods. A detachable handle or electric drill is used to crank up and down the trailer bed height. The width can be adjusted in 30mm increments for versatility, and removing width setting bolts allows the lift ramps to slide off the main chassis spar. Made from folded 3mm mild steel sheet and aluminum suspension arms, the trailer is designed with a nose weight of around 50kg for a 1000kg vehicle. It includes CNC-machined Land Rover Defender/Discovery rubber-elastomer front radius arm bushes as suspension bushings. A legal tow with most small vehicles, it has a mass of 115kg including wheels and braked hitch. A removable ramps version is also available for vehicles without suitable jacking points, though it requires removing wheel pods to load. With ramps fitted, the loading angle is less than 6 degrees, accommodating even the lowest cars. The additional ramps add 35kg to its mass, making it a lightweight yet versatile trailer option.
