I've come up with a plan to create a simplified Lighted Coaster. I'm going to use the QRD1113/1114 Reflective Object Sensor to detect when a drink or cup has been placed on the coaster. This sensor will trigger a response, allowing me to take action accordingly. To get started, I'll need to consult the documentation for the sensor, which can be found online at https://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/BOT/QRD1114.pdf.
