Light Tight Enclosure for Microscope Sample V.1
thingiverse
This is a sleek and efficient sample enclosure that I designed and 3D printed to effectively block background light from entering a microscope. The design consists of a straightforward box that accomplished its purpose in no time. It actually took longer to gather data showcasing the enclosure's performance than it did to conceptualize it. Removing background room lighting poses a significant challenge, especially for non-descanned laser scanning light microscopy systems. Fortunately, this uncomplicated enclosure successfully shielded detectors from background room light entering through the microscope objective, as clearly demonstrated in the provided images. This enclosure is mounted on an Olympus IX71 microscope, showcasing its effectiveness. One notable benefit of 3D printing over traditional methods is that it results in a perfectly light-tight box with minimal effort. Notably, this enclosure's compact size allows for easy placement on a 200mm x 200mm bed, making it an ideal choice for space-conscious laboratories or setups. I manufactured the enclosure from black ABS plastic. Printer Specifications: Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer Model: TAZ 5 Design Software Used: Solidworks 2015 SP 5
