I'm working on some basic armor for a side project that's supposed to be semi-modular. This means I can swap out different parts with others from the same type of armor, like shoulders, bracers, or greaves, and even replace a breastplate with pieces from another set. To make this work smoothly, I decided to create several texture sets. If I had everything on one large texture and just swapped in new bracers from another set, for instance, the engine would still have to load two sets of 2-4k textures. This could cause optimization issues because it's like loading five to ten different texture sets, each with its own 2-4k image. If there's a better way to do this, I'd love to hear about it.
