Light Flicker Detecting Top
myminifactory
Use this device to spot energy-wasting light fixtures by their sluggish frequency flashing! Simply spin the top and look for a twinkling bluish line to see if you could be using a brighter light fixture! Why This Works: Incandescent light bulbs flash at twice the AC frequency because the magnetic driver powering them is directly impacted by the AC current peaks. So 60 Hz AC = 120 Hz flicker. New, more efficient solid-state fluorescent tube lights flash at a much faster rate. This top has high-contrast colors spaced in such a way that when spun at low speed it will create a frame rate interference, just like when you look at your TV through a digital camera. The photos taken with the bluish lines are what you see with slow flashing light, the other two photos used sunlight which doesn't flash and just makes a reddish white blur. NOTE: Some LEDs have low flicker rates and will give you a false reading. Don't toss out your energy-efficient LEDs!
