I installed a new LED light in my entertainment center to replace one that had burned out. The light was significantly brighter than the other two, so instead of returning it, I created a diffuser to redirect the light onto the wall. The diameter of the light housing measured 80.6mm, and I built the diffuser slightly larger at 82mm, ensuring a snug fit. Before assembling the diffuser, I applied PVC cement to bond the two pieces together. Once complete, I placed it in a vapor chamber filled with Acetone to achieve a high-gloss finish. To create the vapor chamber, I repurposed a one-gallon paint can by drilling holes in the lid's recess and adding paper towels to absorb the liquid. In a room temperature environment, this process takes approximately two hours to produce a polished look. I also utilized a cheap mirror from a dollar store and trimmed away the plastic frame to fit it inside the chamber. To prevent contact with the object being processed, I attached copper wire to the mirror, allowing me to lift it out of the can without touching the object. Before placing the object on the mirror, I applied a layer of wax paper to prevent the plastic from sticking. After completing the process, leave the object undisturbed for several hours; it will continue to smooth further over the next few hours and may take up to a day or more for all the Acetone to evaporate before solidifying completely.
