Light Chisel: A 6 degree of freedom input device for your computer
thingiverse
The Chisel Lighter is a highly advanced 6 degree of freedom input device for computers. The Chisel Lighter can be precisely tracked by just two low cost VGA color cameras. Learn more about the Chisel Lighter at our project website: http://dcgi.felk.cvut.cz/projects/chisellighter/ This innovative technology was showcased at the Eurographics 2015 conference and a detailed report was published in the Computer Graphics Forum, Volume 34 (2015), Issue 2:http://diglib.eg.org/handle/10.1111/cgf12563 You might find this video about Chisel Lighter tracking particularly interesting:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFV0Sr1v2JM Note that you may need to repurpose the PlayStation 3 Eye cameras for optimal tracking results:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:820888http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:820866 Instructions The Chisel Lighter body is printed with a black PLA filament, and the outer cylinder is made from a natural PLA filament. We switch filament spools at Z=121mm to ensure optimal color mixing. Two RGB LEDs are embedded within the diffuse cylinder, one powered by a ribbon cable that must be carefully inserted into the cylinder's flute for maximum lighting diffusion. To further enhance homogeneity of light emission, we recommend sanding the outer cylinder surface. The primary OpenSCAD file is the handle.scad, which automatically generates three Chisel Lighters in a single row when printed. Printing three devices at once allows us to switch filament colors without interruption, effectively spreading out pigment residuals evenly throughout each layer. The electronics lid is created using the opening_lid() macro from the handle.scad file, and the battery door STL is generated by the separate battery_door.scad file.
