Light Bender - Laser game
thingiverse
Light Bender is an innovative board game I created using a trio of Red, Green & Blue lasers. The concept revolves around routing the laser beam to a target via mirrors, with the light traveling through an acrylic sheet rather than simply bouncing off the air. This twist makes it more challenging since players must strategically place "blanking" pieces in holes to channel the light and complete the path. Watch Light Bender in action on YouTube at https://youtu.be/ifkgCdoMrVc. If you're interested, I can create a "making of" video showcasing the creative process behind this project. However, I tend to focus on exploring the possibilities offered by tools like 3D Printers and laser cutters rather than detailing the step-by-step instructions, as there's already an abundance of content covering that aspect. Nine Red-Green-Blue LED's are strategically placed around the game board, each accompanied by a light sensor. The game begins with a trigger from the proximity sensor at the top of the board, randomly activating an LED and its corresponding laser. The clock starts counting down from 20 seconds, and players must complete the beam path to reach the target before time runs out. As players progress through levels, the time limit for each puzzle decreases, eventually dropping to a mere six seconds after level 15. Failure to solve the puzzle within the allotted time results in game over. Here's a list of components used to build Light Bender: 1x Green laser pointer 1x Red laser pointer 1x Blue laser pointer 9x WS2812 RGB LED's 9x Light-dependent resistors 1x Proximity sensor 1x OLED display 1x Speaker 1x Arduino Mega2560 Mini 3x BD135 transistors The top clear acrylic sheet and lower plywood pieces were precision-cut using a laser cutter (K40). Vinyl decals, cut using a vinyl cutter, add visual appeal to the game board. Finally, 3D-printed laser mounts and covers complete the assembly. Note: Building Light Bender may not be recommended due to laser safety concerns.
