Life Size Thor's Hammer (Mjolnir)

Welcome all who are worthy! (Okay, I promise that's the only worthy joke I'll make here. There's more in the video though.) :) This is a fully 3D printed Mjolnir, Thor's mighty hammer, made life size and with precision details. I'm sure it's not the exact dimensions of the movie prop but it's close, and can be scaled pretty easily. This version of Thor's Hammer is specifically from The Dark World movie. I've provided two different options for the main part of the hammer - a hollow one to save filament and a solid one that will print in a better orientation with more weight, adding to the realism of it. I hope you enjoy printing this! Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: Minimal Resolution: 0.3mm Infill: 20% All these settings are flexible, but keep in mind that you'll need minimal supports for the little slot on the bottom of the bigger portion of the hammer. I printed at 0.3mm layer height and used no supports while printing, just some clean-up afterwards. Post-Processing: Step 1: Print all the parts. Step 2: Sand the parts down as much as possible to get a smooth finish. Start with coarse grit sandpaper in the ballpark of 100 grit, then move up to 400 or above for best results. Step 3: Glue the parts together using printed pins and Gorilla Glue Two Part Epoxy. Hold the parts in place until they dry completely, then sand any seams to smooth them down. Step 4: Prime the hammer with a black spray primer from Krylon. Apply at least two coats, letting it dry completely between coats. Step 5: Paint the hammer with Hammered Metal silver spray paint. Apply three coats, letting it dry completely in between coats. You can sand any rough areas if needed. Step 6: Paint the handle with brown acrylic paint using a paint brush. Leave the silver rings and base of the handle as is, applying three coats for smooth coverage. Go back over details on the handle with silver paint if needed. Step 7: Apply a wash to the hammer's recessed areas by mixing silver and black acrylic paint with water and dabbing it off with a paper towel or spare brush. This gives a more defined shadow. Step 8: Rough up the paint on the bulk of the hammer using sandpaper for a worn look, then lightly dust darker color across the body for texture. Finally, apply a finish coat with spray clear coat to protect the paint from scratches.
