Lidl Glider - Inverse V-Tail conversion
thingiverse
This is my first Lidl glider conversion, and I wanted a unique look that couldn't be found online in an inverted V-Tail configuration. Here's how to copy this conversion. You'll need: 6 pushrod guides 2 spar holders for the wing 1 V-Tail top joiner 1 set of motor mount parts 2 x 350mm carbon tubes, 5x4mm 3mm Balsa for the tail 6mm Balsa for the wing extension and ailerons 4 rudder horns self-tapping screws to attach the rudder horns some 1.2mm steel pushrods 4 x 9 gram servo's 25 gram glass cloth for the wing G4 polyurethane to apply the glass (or similar 1K polyurethane lacquer) Alternatively, you can glue carbon tubes into the wing to stiffen it. racing drone motor with 16-19mm bolt hole spacing, I used a 2206 1900KV motor propeller 4s 1300 mAh LiPo 5 channel or more receiver 25A ESC with BEC some lead on other metal to balance it magnets for the canopy My build order: I cut the tail 35mm behind the wing opening and cut the fuselage in two halves to make work on it much easier. I made openings for all components. I prepared the wing by lightly sanding. I attached 20mm wide, 6mm thick balsa extensions to the middle section of the wing and sanded it to shape, leaving a nice thin trailing edge. I marked the position where the tail booms should be placed. The spacing between the tail tubes is 270mm from centre to centre. I mark the positions for the four servo's, see pictures. I cut slits for the servo wires. I extended the servo wires so they will stick out ~60mm in front of the middle of the wing. I cut and milled pockets for the servo's and glued them in place. Make room for the servo arm to be pushed flush with the wing so it doesn't stick out when glassing the wing. I glassed the bottom of the wing with one layer of 25 gramms glass cloth, using a brush to apply G4. Cut the glass cloth ~20mm larger than the wing and fold it over the leading edge, the wingtips, and the trailing edge (only where the ailerons will be placed) using G4. After drying, I cut away all loose glass and lightly sanded the top of the wing where there is glass cloth. Now apply glass cloth to the top of the wing in the same way as you did the bottom. Allow to dry and cut away all loose cloth. Inspect the work and if there are any air bubbles, just apply some CA glue and rub it in with a piece of plastic until it's hard. I cut holes in the glass for the servo arms. I made ailerons from 6mm balsa and sanded them into shape. Cover with covering film. Attach using CA hinges. I slid the wing into the fuselage, the tricky part is feeding the servo wires between the wing and the fuse so you can pull them into the fuselage. This will take some patience! I centred the fuselage on the wing and glued in place using CA. I made the balsa tail parts and covered them. I used covering to make the hinges, see picture. I glued all the tail parts together with CA. Glue the tail to the wing. The printed part sits flush with the trailing edge. I attached rudder horns I attach pushrods, there are some guide pieces for the tail pushrods. I installed the rest of the RC gear and adjusted the controls to my liking. I balanced the plane, my CG is at 53mm behind the leading edge. Have fun flying!
