How to Make a Lid. I Designed a Lid for My Cat Food Can. Designing This Project When using flexible filament, keep the tolerances extremely low or even eliminate them altogether. PLA/ABS requires some tolerance, but this can vary significantly from one printer to another. Project: A Lid for a Tin Can Objectives * Design and print a lid that fits perfectly on a tin can * Learn about your 3D printer's tolerances and apply this knowledge to future projects Audiences * Age: 10 years old and above * Skill level: Low-Intermediate Preparation To get started, you will need the following materials: * A tin can * Calipers * Basic understanding of Tinkercad software * (Optional) Flexible filament Steps to Create the Lid 1. Make a cylinder with dimensions that match the diameter of your tin can and a depth of 1mm. 2. Create another cylinder with dimensions matching the lip of your can and a depth of 5mm. 3. Move the 5mm cylinder up by 5mm. 4. Place the 1mm cylinder at the top of the 5mm cylinder, centering it precisely. 5. Convert both cylinders into hole objects. 6. Create another cylinder with dimensions that are 10mm larger in diameter and a depth of 20mm. 7. Align all parts carefully. 8. Group everything together for a cohesive design. 9. Download and print the lid. 10. Resize and reprint until you achieve a perfect fit on your tin can. Results Once you have completed these steps, you will have successfully created a lid that fits perfectly on your cat food can.
