Here's what you'd need for the model, but I won't bore you with the whole story - this printed version is only 7cm tall, really tiny. This Lich King hi res model shows us how to take a game character mesh and reverse-engineer it. When making games, we usually count on the engine to do all the fancy shading, texture mapping, and modifier work, leaving the poly counts as low as possible for a smooth frame rate. You might have noticed that game models from the warehouse often look bad, especially those made before 3D printing; this is because they were originally designed for games, not printing. As a WoW non-player - I've never even touched World of Warcraft, having been more of a Star Wars Galaxies fan - but I appreciate their artwork. Here's the original mesh file, which looked pretty much unprintable in its raw form. This version comes from the Google Warehouse and was uploaded by someone named Mandun; checking his profile shows that he mostly uploads game mesh rips, either making the original or ripping it directly from the game. So, I give credit to Blizzard for creating this base mesh! What you see now is the result of me fixing up a multitude of errors in normals and faces, resculpting it in Blender, increasing its poly count, and fine-tuning rough areas in Modo. My plan is to print out a 10cm version with a long expected time frame - over three hours for one single print. It should turn out nicely printed, though - perhaps even better with resin! Still under work, the details left to complete include swords and skulls; there's definitely more to refine here.
