Every year on June 21st, The International Day of Humanism, The Liberal-Humanist Association presents the Prize of Liberal Humanism. The prize includes a statuette and listing the winner's name on the panel. Current winners are: Hein Picard in 1989, Lucienne Herman-Michielsens in 1991, Regine Beer in 1993, Leo Apostel in 1995, Hubert Dethier in 1997, Dr. Willy Peer Center in 1999, Hubert Lampo in 2001, Zuiderpershuis in 2003, Raymond Mathys in 2005, Jaap Kruithof in 2007, and Karel Poma in 2009. Paul Baeteman is a versatile Belgian artist born in Newport on November 1st, 1933, who primarily works as a sculptor in marble and bluestone.
