Santa María de León Cathedral, also known as The House of Light or the Pulchra Leonina, stands out as a prominent Catholic church in the heart of León, north-western Spain. As one of the most striking examples of Gothic architecture in Spain, it proudly showcases its grandeur. Constructed on the site where ancient Roman baths once stood, built during the 2nd century AD, king Ordoño II transformed this historic spot into a majestic palace nearly eight centuries later. Built primarily between 1205 and 1301, the cathedral's impressive north tower and adjacent cloister were added in the 14th-century, while its south tower reached completion in 1472. This remarkable structure is renowned for its breathtaking stained glass windows, covering an expansive 1,764 square meters of surface area, with the majority featuring original masterpieces that have been preserved magnificently over time. As a result, it boasts one of the most extensive and well-preserved collections of medieval stained glass in all of Europe.
