Lexus key - replacement housing
thingiverse
A fellow is buddies with a dude who's got a 2005 Lexus ES 300, but one thing is amiss - two of his keys are giving him fits due to cracked keypads. This bad boy here's made from super sturdy stuff and is designed as a replacement for those old original covers. The best part? It can be popped open whenever you need to swap out the battery. Moi (short for "Moment of Inspiration") is where this design magic happened, and it was printed on an Ultimaker 1 with PLA plastic that just so happens to shine. Here are the Print Settings for your perusal: Printer: Ultimaker Original Rafts: None needed Supports: Who needs those? Resolution: Super crisp at 0.2mm Infill: All the way - we're talkin' 100% Some extra notes for you: Make sure to check that thing before printing, yeah? Get that orientation right and no support is needed, which makes life a heck of a lot easier. You know what I love about my Print Settings app? The material option isn't even there! Not that it's not convenient, but still - I like doin' things the old way. PLA for the win! So, what happens after printing? Cleaned up some extra plastic around them button holes with a trusty hobby knife. Used a taper-ed hand reamer to clear out some 5 small holes (gotta get that thing precise!) Same deal with a bunch of counter bores - got it? Clean and shiny! (Or at least as shiny as these babies get) Gave those tricky cutouts a go, but best I could manage... still not bad if I do say so myself! Next up: put two parts together in perfect orientation, threw on some 3mm hex nuts with an 15mm button head cap screw, and then got my hands dirty (or should I say - get the buttons moving right?). Fastened those two halves with a trio of 10mm screws. When done tightening 'em all up, flipped that key over and gave it a gentle thud... not too shabby if you ask me. Tighten some more and... tada! All sorted. Next thing I know, the old stem pops into place with one gentle tap. One tiny 2mm cap head bolt - now on to new horizons (and so is this beauty).
