Letter Formation Plates (Full Alphabet)
thingiverse
Preschool and Kindergarten students use these individual letter plates to form uppercase letters with short lines, long lines, small curves and big curves. Educators can also use the Letter Formation Plates in a 3D modeling program to combine them into the words that are currently in the class language arts curriculum. (X, Y, Z and K added 9/2/16 and all files were re-organized in alphabetical order.) The Letter Formation and Word Plates can be printed in just one color. For more vibrant contrast, print with 2 colors using pause at z-axis layers with a single extruder machine. For simple letters where none of the lines or curves cross, then 2 colors may be used. One for the base inside the cuts and one for the outer blank areas. For letters where lines or curves cross, 3-dimensional design was leveraged to create plate cutouts for the overlapping pieces. Those overlapping components can be printed with a 3rd or 4th layer of color. Educators can take the pre-designed letter plates from the full alphabet to create words. Students form either individual letters or entire words using short lines, long lines, small curves and/or big curves. Overview & Background Educators will find a fun kinesthetic activity to engage students in learning to form uppercase letters. Educators will also see opportunities to re-use the letter plates and design their own word plates. A full alphabet set of 3D modeled letter plates are provided. Objectives Students will learn how to form uppercase letters in either guided instruction or independent learning. The plates provide opportunities for students to discover and experiment with how letters are formed. With word plates, students will get hands-on practice forming words that educators have designed combining the letter plates together. Audience Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade. While students in 1st Grade and 2nd Grade no longer need assistance with letter formation, they will find this to be an enjoyable way to practice their spelling word lists.
