Kaimuki Middle School's Advising Instructor, Samantha Kumagai, shares her inspiration behind creating custom chess sets. Driven by her sister's superior skills due to school lessons, she wanted a set with named pieces. The design was different for uniqueness and presented challenges like uneven bases and intricate crowns for the king and queen. Wood or plastic pieces are planned at approximately $15 each.
