Leshys are the spirits of forests in Slavic mythology, closely related to the god Porewit. Although they are masculine and humanoid in shape, they can assume appearance, height or weight. They are mostly indifferent towards humans, unless they despoil the forest and natural world. Sometimes they can lead travelers astray, but sometimes they can save the children lost in the woods. They are considered to be subservient to god Veles, in his roll as the guardian of the natural world.
