Les Tortues de la Victoire
sketchfab
Two bronze tortoises, the mother and her young one, march alongside a 16-meter-tall obelisk situated on their side (not shown here), which was inaugurated on June 17, 2005, in honor of wine and grapes. They both eat grape clusters under the watchful eye of Dionysos riding the base of their necks. The height of this work, installed at Victory Square in Bordeaux, is approximately one meter and must withstand the numerous children trying to ride it. This sculpture (as well as the non-visible obelisk here) was created by Yvan Theimer, a Czech painter and sculptor who immigrated to France in 1968 (born on September 18, 1944, in Olomouc, Czechoslovakia).
