Leotards #2
sketchfab
Leotards showcases Dr Iskandar's playful approach to figurative sculpture. By skirting around full-body representations, he creates forms that hint at human anatomy or garments draped on the body. His sculptural vessels draw inspiration from Balinese sarongs, Peranakan wear, Malay baju and songkok headdresses. Modern elements like shoelaces occasionally pop up in his work. Here, Dr Iskandar takes a lighthearted jab at skin-tight leotards popular in modern fashion. A similar clay form, Hermaphrodite, suggests that these leotards render their wearers androgynous, lacking clear gender indicators. In Leotards, the female figure is subtly distinguished by slight chest bulges not noticeable from afar.
