The Leopold Figl memorial stands tall on Minoritenplatz in Vienna, a tribute built in 1973 to honor this remarkable figure. At its core is an abstract metal stele that proudly showcases the bust of Figl below, while the stele itself boasts inscriptions highlighting his impressive titles: Governor of Lower Austria, Foreign Minister, Chancellor of Austria, and President of the National Council. Masterfully designed by Franz Anton Coufal, Sepp Kais, and Josef Obermoser, this memorial was unveiled in the presence of notable figures Bruno Kreisky and Andreas Mauter. Leopold Figl made history as Austria's first post-war Chancellor, playing a pivotal role in negotiating the Austrian State Treaty. As Foreign Minister, he skillfully navigated the complex negotiations that led to his signing of the treaty on behalf of Austria in 1955.
