Lenticular 4 word xmas ornament
thingiverse
This was hand-designed to showcase lenticular text, which changes appearance based on viewing angle, featuring four short words viewable from either side of a Christmas tree. The design must be printed vertically. I filed a bug with Simplify3d due to this specific layout. Once the dual extrusion tool is run and then rotated 90 degrees on Y, the "drop to table" function cannot be used. It causes color misalignment. To compensate, the z position can be manually adjusted to match the bottom of the table. A dual extruder or marker pens are required for proper viewing of this design. I gave it away at an office Christmas party without capturing a photo first. The rendering of the Openscad file is severely flawed. I encountered significant issues while attempting to get dual extrusion working properly. Achieving settings that work well with two dissimilar PLA materials is extremely challenging, especially for fine details like this. The ooze shield is essential but often doesn't build correctly, resulting in a messy print resembling spaghetti around the actual design, despite its functionality. This print requires a raft to secure it during printing. If I were to reprint it, I would also include a priming pillar for added stability. The Openscad source file is included for reference purposes. To achieve optimal results, use short words with five letters or less and adjust the tree's height accordingly.
