## Nikon Lens Mount for Nimslo 3D Camera This is my first design! It is a lens mount for a [Nimslo 3D camera](https://cameralegend.com/tag/nimslo-3d-camera/) that's been modified for panoramic photography. #### Notes [PLEASE READ] + Versions 15-17 are designed around the Nikon F-mount, which actually won't work unless you have a homemade or custom lens designed for medium-format film (120 rollfilm). + Versions 18-21 are designed for a Russian medium-format Industar-23 lens from the Moskva-IV camera, which is a 6x9 cm rollfilm camera. + For versions 15-17, you'll need to print the separate Nikon lens mount if you don't want to make your own mount. + For versions 18-21, you'll need an Industar-23 lens, which can be found on Ebay for around $50-100 (US dollars). + For version 20, you'll also need to print out the front portion (v1) in order to attach the lens. + For version 21, you'll need to do the same, except using the v2 front part. I still need to figure out film and some kind of monobath developer to use for photos, since I'll need to develop my own negatives. As soon as I get that figured out, I'll post some of those here! I'm thinking about going with [DF-96](https://cinestillfilm.com/products/df96-developer-fix-b-w-monobath-single-step-solution-for-processing-at-home?variant=7367677247522¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2019-11-30&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gclid=CjwKCAiAp8iMBhAqEiwAJb94zyT9ahjJ2aREvdaC8od1Oo0E2MkoM6b6A6CpeXgpZoniNR8H9pP6ehoCF1AQAvD_BwE), which is a B&W monobath from Cinestill Products, and it works with a variety of films. For film, I'll probably use Rollei RPX-25 or Ilford PAN-F Plus, both of which are low-ISO black-and-white negative films. If anyone wants one of the earlier versions, go ahead and shoot me a PM and I'll add it to the file list. Also, if you want a different mount, I'll be glad to whip one up for you! Or if you have SketchUp, just upload the .skp file for the Nikon mount into SketchUp and modify that. #### Notes on modifying your Nimslo The process of taking apart the Nimslo is not particularly easy, since whoever designed it was fiendishly clever and hid the screws in all manner of places. There are 8 screws hidden under the faux-leather grip material– 4 for the plastic lens shroud, 2 for the back, and 2 for the latch. There's also one hidden under the hot shoe. The actual modification process is somewhat destructive– as in "bring a Dremel and a hacksaw." There's no going back. The aluminum chassis is one solid piece, including the cones behind the lenses. You'll need to cut it out using a combination of a hacksaw to chop through large chunks, a Dremel tool with a cutting disc, and maybe a pair of pliers to break bits off (although you want to be VERY CAREFUL in doing that, as you can break off important pieces, like I did). If you look at photo #3, you can see that the entire rectangle has cutting marks on it– and there are a couple spots where I wasn't careful enough and took out some chunks. That's not a huge problem though, as it'll just result in bits of exposure on the sprocket holes. That's about all you need to do in the way of cutting, though. The lenses, shutters, and electronics all come out as one big assembly, which is nice. I actually removed everything except the film advance mechanism, and part of the reason for that was that removing the shutter release allowed me to advance the film without needing to cock/release the shutter at all. And it simplified the reassembly process. There may be some videos on Youtube on how to take apart a Nimslo, and maybe even on how to modify one; if you can find any, you should definitely watch them. I also suggest looking up Dirk Fletcher– he is the one who inspired me to embark on this little adventure. #### Changelog: ##### Update 1: Modified the design so that the opening for a lens mount is centered over the hole for the Nimslo. Also reduced the thickness of the walls from 4mm to 2mm, because 4 was overkill. ##### Update 2: Modified the model. Main modifications are: used SketchUp to orient the faces properly, and moved my logo down so I could round off the corners. Also added a Version 3 without my logo for faster print time. ##### Update 3: Added two new versions with cutouts in the solid parts of the back (opposite from the large round hole). ##### Update 4: Scaled model down a bit so it's half as long (from front to back– front has the large round hole). Scaled logo down to fit. ##### Update 5: Shortened model a bit from 25mm to 18mm, so it's actually the right length for a Nikon lens. Thickened the walls from 2mm to 3mm after performing tests. Finally added Nikon F-mount flanges on the front as well. ##### Update 6: Added Version 14 without logo. ##### Update 7: Added my .skp file from SketchUp just in case anyone wants to import it and make any changes. ##### Update 8: Modified model to eliminate issues with supports. Separated body and mount into two separate files. Also added .skp file for Nikon F-mount. Version 15 is without logo, and Version 16 is with logo. ##### Update 9: Printed! Will be adding photos soon, they need to be resized to 500 KB to fit. ##### Update 10: Added new and improved version 17, simplified a bit and thickened base around back of mount (side with large rectangular hole). Also changed logo to the Nimslo logo. ##### Update 11: Added photos of the printed mount and my modified Nimslo! Also added .skp file for latest version (v17). ##### Update 12: I recently purchased an Industar-23 110mm f/4.5 lens for use with this camera, so I modified the mount again. Version 18 is much longer, and has a smaller opening in the front. ##### Update 13: Added the cutouts for the viewfinder "hump." Also changed the length a bit after I realized I measured the focal distance for the Industar lens incorrectly. ##### Update 14: Changed the design a bit after I sliced it in Cura, and realized this was going to be a 2-day print! I'm not set up for that, so I removed the interior separations. Result was Version 19. ##### Update 15: After I sliced version 19, I realized it was still going to be a multi-day print, so I decided to reduce it to the bare bones. Version 20 is just a bare-bones box. In order to avoid printing supports, which would add a lot of time to the print, I divided the front and the sides, so you'll have to print both. ##### Update 16: Modified version 20 slightly to add diagonal supports for the inside corners. Also modified the front to fit. ##### Update 17: Completely remodeled version 20 into version 21. The whole mount is now a complicated cone shape (ish), and the front (v2) is rounded off. ##### Update 18: Printed version 21 and the corresponding front! It printed fine; although since it was cold outside, I used a brim, and there was a bit of warpage on the edges. This shouldn't be an issue if you have an enclosure, if it's nice and warm outside, or if your wife lets you keep your printer indoors. ##### Update 19: Added STL's for a bracket and handle holder for mounting a flash, viewfinder, or other external thing onto the Nimslo. You'll need to mount your own hot/cold shoe onto the handle. You'll also need to procure your own handle (until I can figure out how to make one). Thanks for looking! *JRManx*
