Lens hood for Sony 16-50 f/2.8 (SAL1650)
thingiverse
Having purchased a pre-owned Sony 16-50 f/2.8 that arrived without its hood, I decided to attempt creating one myself. After studying images and measuring an original version provided by a generous member of the Dyxum forum, I'm confident that my design closely resembles the authentic product. The homemade hood performs well even at 16mm without introducing any vignetting issues. The custom hood features bayonet flanges designed to securely fit the lens, but it doesn't snap into place like an original hood would. To ensure accurate alignment, I've incorporated a groove that should be lined up with the red mark on the lens. This design also allows for reverse mounting of the lens. I created this hood using OpenSCAD and have included the source code in the files provided. Depending on your printer's calibration settings and layer height, you may need to adjust the flange_thickness parameter (currently set at 1.2mm) to achieve a secure fit with your lens. Increasing the total_height from 50mm to 60mm will result in a longer hood that might be more effective, although I haven't had a chance to test this modification yet.
