Lens hood bayonet mount (58mm Lumix)
thingiverse
I designed this lens hood mount to be used for storing lens hoods when not in use. This mount is based on the Panasonic Lumix H-FS14140 lens with 58mm filter diameter (actual lens 61.37mm OD excluding the bayonet tabs). I made this design to be used as a concentric outer ring when printed together with a Micro Four Thirds lens cap:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:39854. The merged printed object can store the lens hood together with a little H-H020 14mm pancake lens inside it, saving space and offering some protection to the pancake lens. Unfortunately the outer bayonet mount was a little too tall for the pancake lens to mate with the lens cap, so I had to trim it back with a Dremel. You can save the trouble by sinking the lens hood mount down below the build platform in your slicing software until its top rim is flush with the rim of the lens cap. In my case, I will be attaching it inside the top flap of my camera sling bag. This lets me store the small lens and large hood on top of my camera in the unused bag space, while keeping them secure and out of the way while I open or close the bag. I can get a Lumix GX8 body, three lenses (these two plus a Nocticron 42.5mm), a Metz 26 AF-1 flash, a spare battery and a SD reader, all into a single Camsafe v3 bag, with a plush divider to pad between the body/lens and the other big lens in the bottom. It's likely the bayonet fit could work for other Lumix models if simply scaled in the X and Y (but probably not Z) axes, and there is some chance that it could work for storing other bayonet mount lens hood brands besides Panasonic since many bayonet lens hoods are "universal". Printer: WeldingRodBot. Rafts: No. Supports: No. Resolution: 0.2mm. Infill: 40%. I used eSUN PETG, quite strong, can take the shear forces of twisting lens and hood against thin tabs. No supports needed, they will be too hard to clean out if not dissolvable. In my case, I still have some overextrusion issues to correct, so I had to print the hood at 99% size and the lens cap at 101% size for the correct fit. If any strings are hanging just trim them or try twisting your lens or hood right over them for a nice tight fit. It's my first Solidworks project.
