Trenches 16 and 19 embark on a thorough examination of a previously partially characterised site located to the east of the abbey, an area that has remained unexplored since its last investigation in 1985 by English Heritage, who interpreted it as the location of the infirmary buildings. This year's comprehensive investigation will provide crucial insight into this area, which has been subjected to intense ploughing over recent years.
