myminifactory
Leif Erikson was a renowned explorer credited with being the first European to set foot in North America, approximately 500 years prior to Christopher Columbus's landing. According to the Sagas of Icelanders, he established a thriving Norse settlement at Vinland, which is now believed to be located at L'Anse aux Meadows on the northern tip of Newfoundland in modern-day Canada. Born around the 970s in Iceland, Leif was the son of Thjóðhildr and Erik the Red, an intrepid explorer and outlaw from Western Norway. Erik had founded the first Norse colonies in Greenland, and his family estate Brattahlíð served as a base for their operations in the Eastern Settlement, where Leif spent his formative years. Leif's legacy extended to his two known sons: Thorgils, born to noblewoman Thorgunna in the Hebrides; and Thorkell, who succeeded him as chieftain of the Greenland settlement.
