Stereo microscopes are frequently used in electronics and other labs, making it highly convenient to capture photographs of what one sees. Our Leica MZ6 microscope does have an additional viewport for attaching a camera, but using this feature would require an expensive adapter and a digital SLR with a suitable lens, which is quite costly for our occasional needs. Inexpensive USB microscopes can be used for that purpose, but accurately focusing them is much more challenging. This adapter enables most phone cameras to be used with a Leica MZ6 microscope (and likely others, at least after some minor modification), simply by placing the adapter on one of the eyepieces and positioning the phone so that the view is visible on the phone screen. No additional focusing is required; just focus with your eyes and then project onto the phone. This adapter also has slots for an additional phone-specific adapter if needed, although we haven't explored this option yet. It's worth noting that the phone needs to be positioned fairly accurately in order to capture a clear picture, requiring some initial experimentation.
