Legoish Train Car
thingiverse
This train car is designed for wooden track train sets, featuring pegs on top to connect Lego-style bricks, enabling customization of train cars. The design is an adaptation of sconine's work (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:11671) and includes steel axles and magnet couplers. Coupling is achieved with acorn nuts and magnets on the ends of the car. OpenSCAD is used to create wheels and bodies, allowing for modifications as needed. Alibre Design was utilized to develop an assembly fixture due to difficulties with OpenSCAD. The fixture assists in gluing wheels onto axles and ensuring alignment. However, note that the STL files are nominal size and may require a 1.5% scale increase for proper peg alignment. To assemble each car, print one body and four wheels. Additionally, you'll need two #6-32 steel acorn nuts, two 8mm x 3mm rare earth magnets, two 1/8" steel rods (cut to 27mm length), and epoxy or CY glue. An assembly fixture is optional but helpful for wheel alignment. Attach magnets to the back of each acorn nut, ensuring they stick together. Dry fit magnets and acorn nuts into the body, then glue them in place. Drill axle holes in the body and wheels, assemble the car, and glue the wheels on with hubs facing inwards. If using the fixture, set all parts in place before gluing the axles.
