A few years ago, Lego unveiled oversized 4x2 Bricks as stackable storage containers (I recall it being an exclusive promotion by ALDI here in Germany). These components are manufactured using injection molding with cost-effectiveness in mind, but they have three grooves at the bottom that can quickly become a magnet for small parts.
