For some Lego-Arduino tinkering, I needed Power Functions connectors, but didn't want to cut a nice genuine cable in two. In Thingiverse, I found triton_9's design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2718236), but his version could only be connected to genuine connector from below, and not from the top. After trying to make a top & bottom connector, I realized that it would be too complicated with DIY means (the pins have different positions on the 2 sides, making the electrical connection tricky). I chose to re-design it, with 2 versions, one to be connected from the top (to connect to a Lego battery box for example) and one to be connected from below (to connect to a motor, for example). The electrical connection is made from a split RJ45 cable. Use 2 pairs to go through the connector, bend the 4 wires for temporary fixation, use hot glue on the opposite face to block the wires into place, and then trim the wires on the connecting face. You can make a 2 connectors cable, or leave one end without connector for your own tinkering (it can be plugged into a breadboard, even though the diameter is slightly small, but it works). Other possibility is to use rigid iron wire, and then use some screw-connectors, but it's not as nice as the RJ45 wires in my opinion. Pinout is easy to find online (http://www.philohome.com/pf/pf.htm for example), but in a nutshell, to 2 most external pins are GND & +9V, and the 2 center connectors are C1 and C2 (0 & +9V that can be switched to change the rotation direction of motors). I also included a picture (old design) were you can see the pinout. Have fun! Fusion360 file included.
