LEGO minifig for large scale printing (retro space person)
thingiverse
Update 3: I've added artwork for the face and chest stencils but haven't printed or tested it yet. I strongly recommend checking the fit of large pieces before printing all of them by slicing interacting bits off main pieces and adjusting until they fit, which can be a lot of work depending on how well you want everything to fit. I've found that bonding thin strips of material inside areas like the head, wrists, and body helps have fine control over the feel of the fit after printing is complete. You can use acetone for ABS or SCIGRIP 4 or 16 for PLA. Update 2: I've updated all STL files and printed them out with little to no work needed on joints afterwards. I've made them at the scale I printed them at rather than 1:1 to the original minifig size, which took about 15 versions of wrist joints alone to get right. I'm still working on face and chest artwork but it should be done within a week. Update 1: I'm continuing work on this model by separating studs that go into the torso so they can be printed desperately to limit reprinting as you tweak things for your printer. I found an error in the original part, deleted it until I can test print again. Arms, hands, helmet, and backpack still need refinement/verification. Currently reprinting top of hips. If printing this, start with legs and head while I finish up testing other pieces. I modeled this to be as close to actual Lego parts as possible and work at 1500 percent scale. Design is made so that all parts requiring super tight tolerance are small to limit reprinting waste when adjusting for your printer. These parts are designed to be printed from PLA on my Ultimaker S5 with a .8 nozzle. At 1500 percent, the torso barely fits into the S5 build volume. You can watch pieces printing here: https://video.nest.com/live/ZtxS4shYdv. I'm still printing and need to model helmet and backpack but legs all work fine as does head. Arms and hands still need testing but will keep this updated until done. I've added the 3ds max file, got arms from a free download but modified them extensively and they still need further modification to work properly so don't print those yet. I'll spray face and chest graphics on when it's done.
