Lego Helical Gears 45 degrees 20t + 12t
thingiverse
Consider following my work if you like what I do. Helical gears for Lego - they're a unique find. These gears are precisely 45 degrees, carefully crafted to ensure smooth operation. When it comes to creating smooth helical gears, resin printers outshine FDM in every way. FDM will still get the job done, but be sure to follow these crucial steps: Take note: If you're using an FDM printer, wear down those gears before putting them to use in a vehicle or creation. Build something similar to what's shown in the picture - connect a motor to the smallest gear and let it run for 10 minutes. Then, attach the motor to the bigger gear and give it some time until it reaches a silky smooth finish. To get the best results, print with layers no thicker than 0.1 mm. I've personally printed the 20t gear using 0.1 mm layers and 40% infill. The 12t gear was printed with 0.05 mm layers and 100% infill - the results are nothing short of remarkable. Printing with a nozzle size of 0.25 mm or smaller will yield incredibly smooth gears, but be warned: they might not fit snugly on the axle. If you're interested in custom-made helical gears or straight-cut gears, simply send me a message and we'll make it happen.
