LEGO Conveyor Belt (or tank tread)
thingiverse
I successfully remixed the "Modular Plastic Conveyor Belt" by adding it under multiple tags where it also fits perfectly. Due to delayed metal part orders, I decided to print them instead. This conveyor is fully made of plastic, with the shaft, couplers, frame, collars, and bushings all printed from plastic materials. A parts list including metal pieces will be included for added durability. The links are designed to be printed inverted from the original design without support structures, which was a bit challenging but worth the effort. The new orientation is crucial because it allows detail printing on top of the links. I decided to add Lego nubs so other plastic components can be attached. Once I had the Lego belt links, I built the frame using Legos. I've always been frustrated with the limitations of connecting Legos, which sometimes seem like a puzzle rather than a building tool. To address this issue, I designed simple gender changers and used male/male blocks to make the design symmetric. This is essentially a first draft, and there's plenty of room for improvement. Please feel free to publish any improvements or ask questions if you have them. Print Settings: Printer Brand: LulzBot Printer: TAZ 5 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.18 (cura 19.12 fine abs) Infill: 20% Notes: This is printed in ABS, and the links are joined by sections of the same 3mm abs. Post-Printing: Clean up the links to ensure a smooth-running conveyor belt by removing any stray bits of plastic from the link juncture. All shaft pieces (shafts, bearings, etc.) and Lego fittings need to be cleaned up before they fit well. How I Designed This: I used Free Sketchup for design, as it's free and easy to use. The drawing will be posted this time around in case anyone wants to modify or improve the design.
