Lego Compatible Disc Buttons
thingiverse
Improve Lego-compatible Makerbot-printable clothing buttons further by shrinking them slightly. The original design has knobs measuring 5mm in diameter, but actual Lego discs are approximately 4.8mm. Your MakerBot-printed buttons may match this size due to shrinkage. Shapeways printed versions are even more accurate at 5.00mm, with a tolerance of +/- 0.05mm. Despite the slight difference, these buttons still fit Lego blocks due to the plastic material's flexibility. Experiment with OpenSCAD software for design variations like DiscButton_20091107, which includes bottom sockets. Remember, LEGO is a trademark of the LEGO Group and this project isn't affiliated with them; however, it's CC-licensed, so they could potentially adopt or expand upon these designs. To create the buttons, download the STL file, print it using four buttons, raft in skeinforge, print gcode, ream out holes with hex keys, and sew onto clothing using inner holes for thread to keep outer holes clear. Additionally, customize the design from the SketchUp source for specific applications.
