FINAL UPDATE / Statement (18/01/2017 17:00): Three white 2x4 reference blocks just rolled off my printer: Base +0.25 +0.5 Here's how it works: you print all three blocks in your desired color, resolution and density. Next, you drive them into place with an original circular single brick. Then, you check various positions and choose the flavor that suits you best - 'engraved' is written right there on the blocks. All my future designs will include three flavors for you to pick from. If none of them fit, please give me feedback. The clip holes shouldn't be a problem; if they're too narrow, just drill them out with a 4.8 mm drill bit. I'd like to thank 'snewpy' for his helpful feedback that led to this latest version of the 2x4 Block! Check it out: http://www.thingiverse.com/make:288389 When printing Lego blocks, you'll face some challenges: [1] There are four different types of Lego clips: Tube clip - don't use it; Rod clip - forget about it; Square clip - that's a story for another time; Hole clip - my personal favorite. The downside is that it won't swallow rough surfaces. [2] Filament supplier issues: raw material, thermal shrinkage and color variations. I discovered that the filament shrinks by around 0.004%. [3] Print ABS is softer than Lego ABS/plastic. This leads to abrasion of the knobs, which will transform into a cone from their original cylindrical shape after several clip cycles - the block pops off. To counter this problem, I added 'counter cones' to the knobs. [4] SCLICER shrinks holes by around 0.6 mm in diameter; I need to fine-tune each design, but I'm not sure how it'll turn out at your slicer/printer. Print Settings: Printer: da Vinci 1.0 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 30% Notes: ABS - make sure to level the print bed and ensure good adhesion!
