This portion of a leg shackle comes from the collections at The Mariners' Museum and Park, where it's housed under accession number 1999.0034. It was meticulously scanned in three dimensions using a NextEngine Desktop 3D Scanner. The object was scanned to add depth to the digital offerings of Encyclopedia Virginia, which is focused on slavery in Virginia. This scanning project receives financial backing from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Courtesy of The Mariners' Museum and Park in Newport News, Virginia (www.marinersmuseum.org).
