Microsoft paid a whopping $2.5 billion in 2014 to acquire the highly sought-after Minecraft IP. In return, they secured control over the most successful sandbox video game ever released and the best-selling unblocked PC game of all time. To recoup such a massive investment, Microsoft has been expanding Minecraft's reach across multiple platforms (and counting), but one platform under their control is on shaky ground. According to Windows Central, Microsoft will soon be ending development and support for Minecraft Pocket Edition on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile devices. The reason behind this move is straightforward: there just aren't enough players flocking to these platforms to justify continued investment. Despite millions of gamers still enjoying Minecraft worldwide, the game's popularity has largely shifted away from mobile devices running Windows.
