Leda and The Swan
myminifactory
This statue was acquired by British painter Sir John Everett Millais in Florence in 1865. Initially believed to be a Michelangelo original, its authenticity has been debated extensively since it arrived in Britain in 1937 under the Victoria and Albert Museum's ownership. In ancient Greek mythology, Leda was seduced by Zeus disguised as a swan, resulting in the birth of Helen. The left leg of Leda and the wings of the swan remain unfinished.
