It utilizes an Adafruit Trinket and NeoPixel LEDs, making it a versatile tool that can be powered by either batteries or plugged directly into the wall. In a previous project, we created a ring light for DSLR cameras using a 60 NeoPixel ring. However, this new version takes it up a notch by incorporating RGBW type NeoPixels, which produce much brighter and more natural lighting. Unlike traditional RGB type NeoPixels, which can give skin tones an unnatural reddish hue due to their color temperature, RGBW type NeoPixels provide dedicated white light that looks incredibly realistic on camera. Combining multiple colors together might seem like a good idea for creating white light, but in reality, it just doesn't cut it when it comes to producing high-quality images. That's why we opted for the superior RGBW technology in this project. To use this lighting rig, simply snap your phone onto the 3D printed bumper, and you'll be ready to capture stunning photos and videos with your front-facing camera.
