LED Lamp with magnetic switch
thingiverse
This is a unique lamp I envisioned as a concept. Deciding to design it myself (as a gift, actually) and now sharing my work with others. The design has been tweaked slightly since its inception. To bring this project to life, you'll need: - A filament in your preferred color (; I used carbon PLA) - Transparent filament for the inner lining (I used HD-glass) - An LED strip (mine is warm-white) with at least 60 LEDs per meter and a power supply - A suitable spring for the mechanism (you want it to be very thin and weak) - Any small, fixed axis (like a motor or similar device) - Ribbon for the magnet balls - Cylindrical magnets (fairly strong) - A switch with a hook As I mentioned, this was a gift, so unfortunately, I don't have detailed pictures. However, the mechanism is straightforward. Once everything is printed and the LED strip is in place, just solder the wires. Next, align the balls with the magnets inside. Position them in the middle with a small gap between them. Then, shorten the ribbon and attach it to the upper ball and the frame. I recommend creating a small hole in the inner lining (make sure it's exactly in the middle!) for the ribbon to pass through. Depending on your LED strip, you might also want to create a small hole to secure the ribbon behind it. The lower ball requires more effort. You need to roll up just the right amount of ribbon so that the ball is held at the correct height. Be aware: The switch acts as your end stop! Use a knot in the ribbon as a 'drag' and lead it through a small hole on the tip of the switch (mine was bent from a small spring I glued to the tip). Then, use the rest of the ribbon with slight tension under it. If the tension is too strong, the spring will likely get tangled. I hope you like this lamp. Feel free to modify anything you don't like. If you have an idea for improving the 'roll-up-mechanism,' let me know.
