This is a DIY guide to modify welding goggles for added functionality without causing eye damage. The diffuser ring, although optional, plays a key role in reducing the harsh effects of LED lights. First, you'll need to print two black inserts and optionally two clear diffuser rings. Once printed, pass the LEDs through pre-drilled holes so that they fit snugly into recesses. To begin with, procure standard welding goggles and then proceed to remove tinted lenses to replace them with the printed insert and a diffuser ring. Finally, make connections between components by soldering and cutting off any excess LED legs. Excess wiring can exit vents located on the sides of the goggles and be connected to a switch or an Arduino device if you so desire. If you're feeling particularly creative, consider adding gears to create a unique steampunk design.
