LED enlarger head for 4x5" cameras or Magnifax 4 conversion
thingiverse
An enlarger head for 4x5" negatives can be adapted to various cameras, including those with graflock backs or converted for use with Magnifax 4 enlargers. To do this, simply glue it in place. The light source can be powered by 8 Cree XP-E LEDs - 4 green and 4 royal blue. This setup provides a multigrade head. However, be cautious when using power LEDs: keep the current below 100mA to prevent overheating or melting. Alternatively, design your own lid made from aluminum for better heat dissipation. You can also experiment with LED strips or bulbs as light sources, but be aware that even illumination across the negative may not be guaranteed without testing. The enlarger head is designed to be split into parts for easy printing and assembly using wood screws (1.5mm core, 2.3mm thickness, 11mm length). A diffuser made from cardboard or plywood must be created depending on the light source used. For my power LEDs, I constructed a 20cm box with aluminum foil-covered walls, a double diffuser at the bottom (tracing paper glued to both sides of LH4x5_DiffFrame.stl), and a second diffuser layer 8cm from the bottom (tracing paper on wire frame). This enlarger head is still in progress - I based it on my old cardboard head that served me for several years. However, some improvements may be necessary.
