LED Christmas Cupcake Light Decor
thingiverse
This is another decoration in the form of a cupcake, designed specifically for the Soondar LED I ordered from Amazon. The German Amazon page features the product at https://www.amazon.de/Soondar%C2%AE-Wasserdicht-Treffen-Weihnachtsgeschenke-Schwimmleuchte/dp/B017AUFLAQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469616105&sr=8-2&keywords=soondar+led, while the English Amazon page is located at https://www.amazon.com/Soondar%C2%AE-Submersible-Waterproof-Wedding-Controller/dp/B00NUYM1ZA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469616131&sr=8-1&keywords=soondar+led. I use this Soondar LED as a night light, as it comes with a remote control, but it could also be used in a kids' room. Two videos showcasing the night light in action can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT7A6UYdoDk and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib7bogNYybM. Printer Settings Printer: Ultimaker2+ Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 0% Notes: Print without a bottom, but keep the top on. I used standard settings in Cura for 0.4Nozzle and Normal Quality, only changing Infill to 0% and removing the Bottom. Be sure to reduce speed when printing the tip of the cupcake so it has time to cool down and lay out small circles slowly. Post-Printing I printed the cupcake using translucent PLA and then spray painted it with rose color and white for the tip, only slightly so the light could still shine through. Design Process I used Cinema4D to model this decoration. See the image setup for details: The bottom part is a Loft Nurbs with two different sized star splines, with the upper end cap set as a fillet cap. In the end cap settings, activate "Create single object." The top part (icing) is the same star spline and a helix spline added to a sweep object. Make sure that the star is the first object under the sweep and adjust the helix as desired. Again, ensure that "Create single object" is activated. Now put the bottom and top parts into a bool object, which is set to type "A union B," activate "High Quality," and again "Create single object." For the last step, activating "Create Single Object" for all items is necessary to get one single polygon object when clicking "Current State to Object." "Current State to Object" will now create a poly object that can be exported to STL without destroying the original setup, allowing you to tweak it later to change the design.
