I'm about to give my old grandfather's Christmas crib a serious facelift, and I think it would be an awesome idea to swap out those ancient Edison-style light bulbs for some modern flickering LEDs to illuminate the fire. I salvaged a total of 16 cheap LED tea candles, each one featuring a built-in flickering LED that doesn't require any additional electronics, running at a low voltage of 3V. Since I happened to have a 12V DC adapter just lying around, I connected four of these LED's together in series. With now four separate sets of LED chains, I get this really cool irregular flickering fire effect because each set flickers independently. I know it's not the most sophisticated electrical circuit out there, but it gets the job done for my purposes. Next up, I'm planning to cover the cone with some red transparent paper and add a layer of toothpicks or small twigs around it. Take a look at this short clip to see the LEDs in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjFDCiq9lYE
