LED Acrylic Sign Base and Sign Insert Template (7" Version - Parametric)
thingiverse
Simple Edge Lit Sign Base and Template for a 7"x7" (1/4" Thick) sign to engrave your picture, logo or text onto. We used Fusion 360 to design the base and Vectric vCarve PRO for engraved designs on the acrylic. Watch a Video Overview of Making this Project here --> https://youtu.be/nYLs2-5fr68. Note: You easily make the sign bigger/smaller as long as you leave the "insert" geometry on the bottom. To Make: 3D Print or CNC the base (upper and lower). Note: If 3D Printing, do it as one piece, though you need to solder the LED strip after passing the wire through. We used MDF for the initial version and ultimately ended-up using Aluminum for the rest. Materials Needed: Material for base (3D Print: ABS/PLA CNC: Bamboo, MDF, Wood, Aluminum), LED Strip & Controller (the kind you can cut and solder are easy to find and inexpensive), 7"x7"x0.25" Cast Clear Acrylic (Local or Online plastic store such as TAP plastics will carry these). Tip: Mirror your text/graphics so you can engrave from the backside of the acrylic, this will look cleaner when viewed front the un-cut side! The sign should be etched lightly with a 1/16" router end mill bit on your CNC machine. (Gcode for our Benchtop-series "CNC Router Parts" Machine included here). http://www.cncrouterparts.com/benchtop-pro-cnc-machine-kit-p-314.html. In our make, the stand is made out of 1/2" Bamboo using one 1/4" Flat End Mill tool. Lights are the typical LED RGB controlled "cut" strips, glued in. How I Designed This
