Lectern support
myminifactory
The intricate carving showcases three distinct figures that once served as a base for an eagle-shaped lectern. The majestic eagle itself symbolized John, while the other three creatures on display represent the remaining Gospel authors – Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Each figure is expertly rendered: the man embodies Matthew, the lion represents Mark, and the ox personifies Luke. This carving likely originated from the same workshop as another lectern support acquired during the same period. The master craftsmen of Nicola Pisano's workshop in Pisa circa 1270 brought this masterpiece to life.
