The designers of the freezer clearly envisioned that its locking mechanism would wear out prematurely, requiring consumers to invest in costly replacement parts – approximately 50% the cost of an entire new appliance. Not content to wait for this outcome, a creative individual created an innovative replacement lock, rendering it unnecessary for people to succumb to planned obsolescence. To implement this alternative, it's essential to first dismantle what remains of the original retaining ring and swap it out for the custom-made part. Metal fasteners are an effective solution, with several individuals having successfully used them to great effect. In terms of fine-tuning the setup, it may be necessary to slightly adjust the screw holes and handle pin aperture using a drill or impact driver – taking note that modifications have been made to this specific model, which now features only one hole instead of two, as illustrated in an accompanying image.
