This leather fragment is folded over with stitch marks on opposite edges. Its purpose remains a mystery, but it could have served as part of a bag or horse saddle. This artifact is one of many well-preserved fragments of medieval leather and organic materials excavated from the moat of Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries and Galloway between 1955 and 1966.
